Tech Nest is an electronics shopping platform designed to make buying tech products easier and more personalised. It offers smooth navigation and features like product customisation to help users quickly find what they need, whether it’s a specific setup or a bulk order for a business.
The app aims to simplify the buying process by providing clear product information, a secure checkout, and fast delivery. The goal is to create a seamless shopping experience that meets the needs of both individual customers and corporate clients.

The challenge
Simplifying tech shopping in a rapidly expanding
market
With so many tech options out there, shopping can feel overwhelming. Users often get stuck comparing specs, prices, and features across different sites, which leads to frustration and decision fatigue. The ability to customise products like upgrading storage or adding accessories, isn’t always easy, and for businesses placing bulk orders, dealing with different suppliers and prices makes the process even harder.
The goal
Tech Nest makes tech shopping easier by giving users one place to find, compare, and customise products that fit their needs. With clear info, smart suggestions, and simple customisation, the app helps users shop faster and with less stress. It also supports bulk orders, making it easy for businesses to buy in large quantities.

Design Process

1. Empathise

Competitor Analysis
I conducted the compettor analysis using the three biggest competitors; Amazon, Newegg and AliExpress.
Key Features
Based on the competitor analysis, these are the features that Tech Nest needs to posses to be a worthy competitor in the market.
  • Adopt Amazon’s strong personalisation features to improve user engagement.
  • Offer AliExpress-style customisation & bulk order options while ensuring quality and trust.
  • Avoid cluttered interfaces and overwhelming product pages by keeping the design clean and intuitive.

3. Ideate

Design system & brand guideline
To maintain visual consistency and support smooth collaboration, I developed a design system and brand guidelines for Cozy Furn. It includes reusable components, clear typography, color standards, and UI patterns

This colour palette gives Tech Nest a modern, clean, and friendly look. The mix of bold and soft tones helps highlight key actions, improve readability, and make the site feel welcoming making it a perfect for a tech shopping experience that’s simple and easy to use.

Typography
Font pair: Lora & Inter

Lora and Inter make a strong, balanced font pair for Tech Nest. Lora brings a modern, trustworthy feel for headings, while Inter is clean and highly readable for body text. Together, they keep the site professional, easy to scan, and user friendly which is great for helping users shop with confidence.

5. Usability Testing

To evaluate the user experience of the Tech Nest mobile app, I conducted a usability testing session using a high-fidelity prototype. The aim was to assess how easily users could browse tech products, customize specifications, and complete a purchase with confidence and ease.
Objectives
  • Identify pain points in product discovery and customisation
  • Understand how users interact with product details and filters
  • Evaluate clarity and usability of the checkout process
Participants
  • 3 participants were selected based on the app’s target audience: tech-savvy young professionals and small business owners.
  • All participants had experience with online electronics shopping, but varying familiarity with product customisation features.
Tasks Tested
  • Navigate from the homepage to a product listing
  • Search for products & apply filters to explore different product categories
  • Add item to cart and proceed to checkout
  • Customise a product (e.g., storage, add-ons)
Key Findings
Iterations
Based on user feedback, I did the following iteration:
Add Clarity to Checkout Details
To easily access clear summaries of shipping timelines & return policies, users can now easily click" track your order" on the order confirmation page. This iteration will improve transparency and reduce last-minute hesitation.

  • Enhance Customisation Feedback
    Add real time visual updates and confirmations when users change product options like color, storage, or add ons. This will help to reduce confusion and make users feel more confident about their choices.
  • Introduce a Business Dashboard
    Design a dedicated interface for corporate clients to easily manage bulk orders, view order history, and track deliveries.
  • Live Chat Support
    Add real time support or an AI assistant to help answer questions and improve the shopping experience.
